Instead of relying on what “news organizations consider,” report it straight: the proposed rules set out by the Department of Defense under Secretary Pete Hegseth seeking to establish new constraints on journalists are *unconstitutional*. Prior restraint here is as clear a violation of the First Amendment as President Donald J. Trump Trump & Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr using government power to coerce networks into censoring disfavored speech “the easy way, or the hard way.”
